Zenyogkido is a martial art married to a spiritual ideal. The word ZEN comes from the Sanskrit word DHYANA, which eventually ended in Japanese Zen temples. The word YOG comes from the Sanskrit word meaning to yoke. The word KI means essence, the essence of particular things, tangible or otherwise. The word DO is a Japanese word meaning the way. In particular the system uses Raja Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Bhakti Yoga.
It is intended to incorporate humility, respect for others and a peaceful nature. The aims are to raise the individual spiritual level, and to obtain mental and physical union through the Martial arts. In fact a way of life. The training syllabus will include the study and application of meditation ZEN and YOGA methods, Footwork,
Punching, Blocking, Parries, Techniques of Strangulation, Choking, Wrist-locks, Immobile holds, Kicking Techniques, Throwing, The art of falling without harming oneself and esoteric breathing exercises.
The nine virtues of the system are:
